PCI Card

A PCI Card is a data bus card that connects to a microprocessor, PCI bus based PC, PCI bus based server, PCI bus based work station, PCI bus based desktop, or PCI bus based industrial computer.

Defining a PCI Card
PCI is the acronym for Peripheral Component Interconnect. PCI bus is an interconnection system between a microprocessor and attached devices supporting expansion slots that are spaced closely for high speed operation. Using PCI bus, a computer may support both new PCI cards while continuing to support Industry Standard Architecture or Enhanced Industry Standard Architecture (I think, the correct acronym?) (ISA/EISA) expansion cards, older standards.

The Uses of PCI
The Symmetricom PCI card is used in a wide variety of PC-based applications, as well as PCI bus based servers, PCI bus based work stations, PCI bus based desktops, or PCI bus based industrial computers. In many cases, the PCI card system design has been tailored to support specialized applications. Some of the most popular PCI card based applications include Aerospace; the Military; Simulation; industrial controls; Transportation; Telecom; Medical; High Energy Physics; and general business.

PCI Operating Systems
Symmetricom's PCI bus card time and frequency processor modules can be configured within a wide variety of computing environments (including Windows, Solaris, Linux, Unix, VxWorks, and more) and meet most interface requirements.

Symmetricom's PCI Cards
Symmetricom's PCI cards are PCI bus based time and frequency modules that provide precise time to the PCI bus based host computer and generatePCI bus based programmable event pulses and PCI bus based pulse rates for external equipment. Symmetricom's PCI cards generate IRIG B serial time code and will synchronize to an IRIG B time code input or to the GPS satellites. In addition to the PCI bus based external event time capture function,

Symmetricom's PCI card product features facilitate time integration into most applications using time from IRIG time codes or the GPS constellation. All of Symmetricom's PCI bus modules are optionally equipped to synchronize with GPS satellite time, thus enabling Symmetricom's PCI bus modules to provide an accurate time reference to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
