For years, the cable industry has endeavored to break down the major service silos of voice, video and data. While IP technology will help them get there long-term, operators must also look to break down the "micro-silos," as well. One platform that will help operators do that is the modular-cable modem termination system, which will allow operators to mix and match QAMs and share QAM resources for a range of services and applications, including VOD, high-speed data and switched digital broadcast.
