Synchronization Management is Essential
Once routine, timing and synchronization has now become a critical network function. Applications such as 4G/LTE mobile networks, Smart Grid power station control, and high-frequency stock trading have increased requirements for accurate and precise timing. At the same time, next generation networks rely on packet protocols to distribute timing over asynchronous Ethernet. This makes centralized visibility and management of network timing an essential task to ensure reliable network performance and the successful delivery of services.
Easy Entry
Network operators that have not previously managed their synchronization network can take control of this critical function without making a major investment in new hardware, database platforms or software capabilities. TimePictra Release 10 is platform independent—running on a PC or an existing server as a virtualization instance. TimePictra supports the free, open source MySQL database as well as industry leading Oracle solutions. User client software is a standard browser: Internet Explorer, Mozilla or Chrome. Full FCAPS capability is in the basic software, while advanced feature options are available as required.
Full FCAPS Plus Advanced Features
The basic TimePictra software comes with full support for the standard FCAPS capabilities: Fault Management, Configuration Management, Accounting (Inventory) Management, Performance Management, and Security Management. Basic features also include geographical topology map, navigation tree with domain hierarchy, and user dashboard reporting of alarms, inventory, logged in user details, and license installation information.
Advanced feature options increase the ease of use and advance the basic FCAPS capabilities. Each option is enabled by a software license key with no additional installation required. The modular architecture allows network operators to deploy TimePictra to meet current needs while simplifying future upgrades to meet with future business requirements. Options include capabilities that enhance security, performance monitoring, and the reporting function, as well as an option for creating management groups that simplifies policy administration in large networks, and the ability to customize the dashboard for each user.
End-to-End Visibility of IEEE 1588 PTP
With next-generation networks increasingly using IEEE 1588-2008 Precision Time Protocol (PTP), TimePictra allows network operators to manage not only the grandmaster clocks in the network, but also monitor the health and performance of PTP slave clocks distributed throughout the network—including clients not supplied by Symmetricom. It can add or delete slave clocks and monitor their status in terms of sync flow detected or not detected. An alarm is created if a clock disappears from the network. When Symmetricom clients are used, TimePictra will also report events, status and performance metrics.
Network operations integration
Many network operators integrate synchronization management systems with their operating systems for central management of multi-vendor, diverse equipment environments. TimePictra enables integration of its northbound interface using SNMP for alarm integration and TeMIP northbound for alarm and topology integration.
