Formerly the 21st Century Communications World Forum, SOFNET 2008 provides service providers with a framework to examine the impact of software as it becomes the driving element in next generation carrier networks.

The workshop session, chaired by Andy Stevenson, chief executive officer at Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe, will consider some of the latest technology innovations and techniques that will enable a mixture of legacy services and new packet-based services to be supported on a converging NGN of the future. Mr. Ferreira will be discussing the requirements for synchronization in Carrier Ethernet networks, the capabilities of synchronous Ethernet and packet timing techniques, as well as the deployment of Ethernet synchronization in access and core networks. He joins other panelists including Chris Bilton from BT, Oliver Thorp from Fujitsu Telecommunications Europe, Richard Strike from ADVA Optical Networking, Jeremy Brayley from ECI, Mervyn Kelly from Nortel Networks and Paul Momtahan from Tellabs. The session runs from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Ferreira has 18 years of experience working in the timing and synchronization industry. His experience ranges from positions in RF engineering to synchronization systems engineering, and he works closely with international telecom operators and manufacturers to develop solutions for virtually all applications requiring synchronization expertise. Mr. Ferreira has written numerous papers on the synchronization of wireline and wireless networks.
