Symmetricom is a worldwide leader in precise time and frequency products and services. Synchronization of time and frequency is an essential element of communication, computation, transportation, space and many electronic systems. Our products bring critical timing, frequency and synchronization solutions telecom networks, space, defense and avionics networks and enterprise networks in over 90 countries. Our products control or synchronize the flow of voice, video, and data throughout IP, wireline and wireless networks, enabling our customers to maximize network efficiency and quality of service.  Our products include atomic frequency references, such as rubidium, cesium and hydrogen masers, GPS time and frequency receivers, distribution systems and analysis software. Supporting the migration to Next-Generation Networks (NGN), Symmetricom also incorporates technologies including Universal Timing Interface (UTI), Network Time Protocols (NTP) and Precision Time Protocol (IEEE 1588).  Symmetricom is located in San Jose, Calif., with offices worldwide.

 

Brief History
Symmetricom, Inc. was incorporated as Redcor Development Corporation in 1956 and developed, manufactured and marketed a variety of electronic products. In 1977, Redcor merged with Silicon General and the combined companies formed Silicon General, Inc.  In 1986, the company shipped its first network synchronization product, which remains the primary focus of the company today. In 1993, the company changed its name to Symmetricom, Inc. Since its inception, Symmetricom has focused on the design and manufacture of electronic systems. The company acquired TrueTime, Inc. and Datum, Inc. in 2002 and created its Timing, Test and Measurement Division.  In 2005, Symmetricom acquired Agilent Technologies’ Frequency and Time Standards product line. 

 

Organization
Symmetricom is organized into three core business groups:

 

Telecom Solutions Division (TSD) provides network timing and synchronization equipment and components to the telecommunications industry for the wireline (land-based), wireless and cable markets.

 

Timing, Test and Measurement Division (TT&M) provides equipment to generate and distribute precise time and frequency to a wide variety of industries including IT networks, government laboratories, metrology services and space, defense and avionics contractors.

 

QoE Assurance Division (QoE) provides network performance monitoring and diagnostic products for carriers, service providers and enterprises that seek to deliver triple play network services.
