The Timing, Test and Measurement Division of Symmetricom is looking for a Senior Software Design Engineer to join our team in Santa Rosa, California.

• Design, develop and maintain custom applications for test and measurement applications.
• Integrate open source software for embedded Linux solutions.
• Maintain and improve an extensive line of real-time products and systems.
• Develop software to implement network protocols and network based user interfaces.

Essential Qualifications:

• Minimum of BSCS/BSEE degree or equivalent experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of industry software/firmware development experience.
• Thorough knowledge of C/C++ and current industry standard SW development practices.
• Experience developing on *nix platform (gnu toolchain, perl, vi, etc.).
• Significant knowledge of operating systems including real-time kernels with experience developing on at least one embedded system.
• Must be able to work productively with hardware engineers in the design and development of new products.
• Must have strong written and verbal communication skills.

Desired Qualifications:

• MSCS/MSEE degree.
• Extensive device driver development experience with kernel based character devices, both Windows and *nix.
• Previous experience writing drivers using the Windows Driver Model and Windows Driver Framework.
• Experience with Linux based administration and configuration of filesystems, network stacks and routing desirable.
• Previous development experience with measurement applications in Linux environment.
